Birthday party bingo cards
Every children's party has a moment when the food is not ready or the guests need to come down from the bouncy castle. A round of birthday bingo fills it. Type the birthday child's name into the title and every card carries it.

Running bingo at a children's party
- Twelve cards, one per guest, come out on six sheets. Add two or three spares for siblings who stay; each spare is a different card and can simply join in.
- Personalise the list. Replace a few lines with the birthday child's favorite animal, their pet's name or the theme of the party, and watch them spot their own words on friends' cards.
- Sit the children in a circle on the floor with the cards in front of them, and call from the middle. Small candy or cereal hoops are fine as markers for this age group; stickers are less likely to roll away.
- Under-sixes lose interest if they wait too long, so play to the first line and then keep going until everybody has had one. A sticker for each line means no one leaves without a win.
- For a mixed-age party, pair each little one with an older child as a helper. The helper reads, the younger one places the marker, and both shout when the line is complete.

Questions
What age is birthday bingo good for?
From about four with the three by three grid and an adult calling slowly, up to ten or eleven on the bigger grids. For older children, swap the words for jokes about the birthday person and it still works.
Can I put the birthday child's name on the cards?
Yes. The title box takes up to 28 characters, enough for a first name followed by the words birthday bingo, and it prints at the top of every card.
How long does a round take at a party?
On the four by four grid a first line tends to arrive within five to ten minutes of calling, which is about as long as a group of excited children will sit. Allow a little longer if you play on until everyone has a line.
Does it work for an adult birthday?
With your own words, yes. Fill the list with things the guest of honour always says or does, leave the call sheet off, and guests mark a square whenever one happens during the evening.
