Bridal shower gift bingo
A bridal shower often brings together people who have never met: college friends, future in-laws, colleagues, a grandmother or two. Gift bingo gives them all the same thing to follow while the presents are unwrapped, and the squares here are the household items couples usually put on a registry.

Hosting notes for the shower
- Put a card and a pen at each place setting before guests arrive. Twenty-four cards take twelve sheets of paper, and cream or blush card stock makes them look like part of the table.
- The maid of honour or the host should hold the checklist page and tick each gift as the bride opens it. When someone calls bingo, their line is read back against the ticks.
- Agree a generous matching rule out loud: a set of pans covers saucepan or frying pan but not both, and a gift basket lets each guest pick one item from it.
- Because the bride is busy unwrapping, give her a job in the game: she announces each present by name, which keeps the room listening and helps guests at the back.
- Three prizes are plenty, for example hand cream, a small candle and a box of tea. If nobody has a line when the last present is opened, the card with the most marked squares wins.
Household gifts on the cards
Kitchen, table, bedroom and bathroom presents, the usual contents of a wedding registry. If the couple asked for something else, such as camping gear or honeymoon contributions, overwrite lines until the list looks like theirs.

Questions
What is bridal shower gift bingo?
It is bingo played with presents instead of called numbers. Guests hold cards showing typical wedding gifts and mark a square each time the bride unwraps that item. A completed row, column or diagonal wins.
How many gifts need to be opened for someone to win?
It depends on the grid. With two dozen guests on five by five cards, a line usually appears once a good part of the pile has been opened. For a shower with few presents, print the three by three grid so a line needs only three matches.
Can I match the cards to the couple's registry?
Yes, and it makes the game livelier. Open the registry beside this page, type its items into the gift box one per line, keeping each under 20 characters, and print. At least thirty lines keeps the cards well mixed.
Does it work for a couples' shower or a wedding shower with men invited?
It does. Nothing on the list is tied to the bride alone. Change the title to Wedding shower bingo and add tools, a doormat or outdoor items if the couple registered for them.
